Ordered MAHLE Valve cover gaskets, head gaskets, NGK iridium spark plugs, and new wires for the spark plugs. Planning to replace gaskets and spark plugs this weekend to begin searching for the oil leaks. We're hoping the cylinders are ok and won't have to be bored. If the new plugs start getting fouled, then that puts the piston rings and cylinders as the suspects for the heavy oil leakage. That will be addressed when we pull the engine out in June.
Dropped the impala off at Mechanics the night before, for one last professional opinion and overall inspection for a list of problem areas we need to address. Car did not pass inspection, so we have our work cut out to fix it.
1. Driver side door does always close correctly
2. One of the exhaust pipe hangers is broken
3. Front hood is loose near latch
4. Transmission is slipping
5. Windshield wiper washers do not work

Did two applications of Gunk Engine degreaser to get most of the sludge off the engine, starting to see the orange paint again! Also pulled out two sparkplugs, noticed there were two different styles installed in this engine. First one is your standard sparkplug with the electrode in it. But the other one is designed for dirtier engines aparently. Not sure why both are in there and not 8 of one or the 8 of the other. Stephen started pulling the door wells apart to find rust damage, front door wells are in pretty good shape. Rear left has a few holes. but the Rear Right is in bad shape, holes going through the body work. Also found a massive bondo job done on the rear right wheel well.

Engine after the degreaser treatment, getting it's orange paint back! Cleaner intake manifolds and heads Cleaner engine. Definetely going to replace the hoses A little bit of rust damage in the bottom of the door well on the rear left passenger door, little bit of metal patching ought to fix that more significant rust damage on the rear right passenger door well, pulling this apart led us to find some more damage in the wheel well huge patch of bondo put in by MAACOa few years back to cover rust from road salt damage. Rear right wheel well was patched up with that bondo slab. Hole was probably created by years of road salt damage

Fired up the impala and started examining the body work and the state of the engine. Interior is done, dry rot and sun damage. Entire interior will be stripped and gutted soon.

Front End side side rear end engine engine engine engine Master Brake and brake fluid reservoir. Was cleaned out, will be replaced 2 barrel Rochester Carb, will be replaced Alternator, fairly new, will clean up Ignition coil and distributor Driver side front door, needs new window cranks and weather stripping Rear driver side door, arm rest needs to be repaired, that'll probably be addressed during the re-upholstery Driver's seat Driver's console, clock is busted, light on speedometer is shot. Issues with the electrical contacts on the light switch. A New console will be intalled featuring temperature gauges, oil pressure, and tachometer. obviously not the original radio, planning to get a modern unit, but with a retro style face on it so it looks original. Will put an aftermarket AC unit on the floor underneath Front Seats, will be stripped and re-upholstered professionally.

Got ownership of the Impala. This date is also the day my grandfather would have been 100 years old
